I’ll never forget my first time.. learning about arbitrage (“where someone takes advantage of price differences for the same asset in different markets to generate a profit”). The economic principle IMMEDIATELY made sense to me because it’s basically shopping a sale (none of my profs LOVED that).. or when you get VAT back in Europe lol.

I’ve since been on many a date where a man in finance has tried to sell their arbitrage job to me as an “incredibly complex investment strategy”, to which I think… the girls on fashionphile are already doing this w/ barenia birkin 25s.. but ok :D.

The move to formalize our sale edits was based on your (glowingly positive !!) feedback following the EIHG beauty letter during moda operandi’s sale a couple of weeks ago. I received so many email replies and DMs with a desire for MORE sale coverage via TM.

Which makes me so happy because i’ve always believed that shopping sales is one of life’s greatest pleasures…. like the thrill of discovering something dizzying at a price that feels too good to be true??? VERY exciting!!!! And on that note, before we continue, I want to be clear on a few guiding principles as we move forward:

• Every pick will always be EHG/EIHG certified (read about that here). I’ll only ever surface EIHG-aligned brands, and things that have been stamped with that aura. My only exception is for picks relevant to Goop-adjacency, but that’s a subthread of the EHG/EIHG lineage anyway LOL.

• Discernment is our sacred covenant!!! There are lots of beautiful things that go on sale everyday, but not everything is WORTH it, even at sale price. This is my lens of what’s worth it to ME, but check your gut to see if it’s worth it to YOU. Perhaps the discount isn’t substantial enough to entice, and even that’s worth celebrating!! We are never ever despy over here!!!!

• On that note^^ i’m only going to talk about sales that are compelling! And i fear that the majority of sales are… simply not. So if you have a request, send me a note or plug it in our gc, however, i will always reserve the right to veto!!!

• To triple confirm that we’re aligned on ethos: the thrill of a sale is in the mystical finds — aka the things you’d have gladly bought for full price, but by the law of the invisible hand, you get to walk into a new portal where for a short window of time, your desires exist at a DISCOUNT (arbitrage). We buy things because they’re fundamentally GOOD + they happen to be on sale, not the other way around.

up first: we’re spilling tea on this mysterious $1,100 perfume !!!!

1. Starting with BREAKING NEWS: Violet Grey just launched Madame Grey, a $1,100 perfume (extrait de parfum) that’s being sold in a limited capacity (only 1,100 vessels)…. The insane part is that they aren’t listing any of the perfume’s notes online. So if you can’t make it to a Violet Grey store to smell it IRL, the only thing you’ll ever know about what it smells like is per the website’s “It smells like every girl who ever broke your heart.” Ominous, but im intrigued..

2. What’s even crazier??? VG launched a massive (3.4 oz) bottle of hair perfume with the same scent….. for only $100??? AKA the same-ish product 1/10th the price??? I got my hands on both perfumes yesterday (TY Hirshleifers), which I sprayed LIBERALLY in my hair and on my inner wrist before departing for

3. SO WHAT DOES IT SMELL LIKE TARIRO??? Sweeter than you’d think… but not entirely unique??? Like you’ve definitely smelled something adjacent before. NOTES: It’s the axis of fresh (soapy & powdery and maybe a little salty in a summery/mildly aquatic way), floral (maybe geranium or hints of jasmine/lilly of the valley.. dark horse would be white peony), creamy (a little sandalwood and perhaps a little white tea… it’s like very creamy!!!), with HINTS of sweet citrus (I think mandarin… compliments the creaminess) and a lil sweet vanilla. There’s maybe a dash of patchouli, and it gets more powdery and like fresh/soapy as it dries down.

   1. I think you’d initially expect the woman who broke your heart to smell like tantalizing + dark… oudy/musky/woody/spicy… or like a heady-gourmandy blend… but this is the polar opposite. Which actually tracks, because I think the heartbreak that cuts deepest is from the person who never leads with the fact that they have the capacity to eviscerate you. Madame Grey smells like an intoxicating love, yes, but the kind that stems from letting your guard down and getting diabolically trounced on by the sweetest fairy in the land. Even worse, you can’t seem to hate her after she leaves — you cling to the sweetly unassuming scent that lingers on your pillows, now mixed with the saltiness of your tears, because it still smells like safety, trust, and vulnerability. CRUSHING.

      1. I will also say, after we’d finished dousing the hirschleifers’ violet grey outpost with the scent, a 50ish year old woman came up and asked what is that fragrance? And it looked like she had STRONG intent to buy. I could see this becoming the new baccarat rouge for women over 45!!! Lily Vanderwoodsen’s daytime scent if I may.

   2. STRATEGY: If i’m being honest, I’d have been pissed if I spent $1,100 with a promise to overtly break a man’s heart and it’s more Water Lilly than s3x siren LMFAO. I will say that the $100 (3.4oz!) hair scent is a brilliant pick. It lasted just as long as the perfume did!! Which at first I was like how dumb for them to have launched the SAME SCENT for a fraction of the price at the SAME TIME. Like doesn’t that immediately cheapen the value of the $1,100 bottle??? Until my strategy brain turned on (thank god) and I realized that the $1,100 perfume is simply a red herring and the vehicle for this vertical’s profitability RELIES on selling that hair mist. Which is fckn BRILLIANT because every aspirational consumer of the $1,100 perfume will be sprinting to get their hands on something that feels priced almost too good to be true (like you CAN spray hair perfume on your body…..). If the extrait de parfum is for lily vanderwoodson and her highland park/beverly hills/greenwhich contingents, then the hair perfume is the west village girl’s dream dupe. (FYIW — I bought the hair perfume… no regrets lmfao, I feel flirty and powerful).

2. This is the tinted moisturizer EIHGs are hoarding for summer. Apparently it’s so good it’s baptismal (leaving one feeling refreshed, anew, and anointed). Ppl are still gatekeeping this, so it’s worth giving a whirl if you get a rush from being EARLY and you like the idea of having skin that looks rich enough to have been bestowed its own trust.

3. If you read the OG beauty edit, then you understand how feral EHGs/EIHGs are for this exfoliant set from Lilis. I hate to report that it’s as good as they say it is. I’m never turning back, my skin is smoother than a baby!!!! So so sooo timely for summer!!!
