8 Good Things! #004

Last Saturday, I had a Very TM Shopping Day in Soho. AKA I tried a lot of things on, strongly expressed my opinions, developed new unrealistic fixations, and critically — bought nothing. Here’s what stood out to me:

1. I FINALLY TRIED THE $450 BOTTEGA PERFUMES. Let’s get the basic bits out of the way first — 100% worth the price: the glass is heavy, the bottles are structurally stunning IRL, the marble pebble stand is so chic it makes me want to cry, and they all smell like their kids matriculated at a top 10 uni (…. shockingly, even the one that smells like remnants of coconut body spray and sol de Janeiro — apparently a hit amongst Floridians, must we always catch a stray 😭). Maybe the parenthesis gave away the salacious bit: I’m not entirely compelled to buy?

   

   Let’s start by saying scents are incredibly personal, and what smells good on my skin could smell diiiiisgusting on yours. The best scent is Acqua Sale. My best friend (& EIHG) is a Glossier You Stan, and she ADORED Acqua Sale & found it very comforting. I agree, it’s sexy but discreet. Perfect for day but can really rev up at night. Similarly to You, it smelled incredible on her…and.. pleasantly meh on me. Come With Me smells very 90s….if you had a Range Rover & lived in Surrey. I liked it a lot, but the peppercorn made me slightly annoyed upon 3rd sniff. Deja De Minuit was also gorgeous, but ultimately fine. The others are unnamed because I had no commentary. Acqua Sale was the only one we sprayed on our bodies, but wish I had tried Come With Me on the other arm to see if the peppercorn dried down differently. All-in, I’m glad that I was able to go in-store before buying the discovery kit . TLDR — I think they are all luxurious, stunning, and nuanced, so if you’re intrigued, go in store & try on your skin if you can (or buy the kit) before fully jumping in!! Xx

2. I went to the Webster and my SA showed me a TIME. I could hear my heartbeat in my ears when I walked out of that store because of two exemplary Khaite sweaters:

   1. The first is actually one of the great loves of my life. I do not care if that sounds dramatic, it is my truth. In the first ™️ shopping letter, we spoke about my commitment to The Rugby polo, and last week, we spoke about how polo sweaters encapsulate my being. The Khaite Rene blends both, with a unique silhouette that is (as far as I’ve found) unDUPE-able?? The arms are batwing adjacent, so it creates this insane draping that is both bloke core and princess Diana (a fine line to straddle so effortlessly). The cashmere is light to mid-weight & warm ++ v breathable. Outfit variations could range from the airport to post yoga to a weeknight/sunday dinner. My restraint is hanging on by a thread, but as you’ll see later on in this letter — I have other priorities that don’t include this sweater (hoping it goes on sale or I can find on TRR…dear GOD).

   2. The second Khaite sweater gives strong Second Wife. Her name is Irla & YES — she’s hotter and more fun. But ultimately…..replaceable in the way that discarding the Rene would be untenable to my existence. You all loved them equally, so I’m going to try and find another butter yellow/yuzu sweter that’s similar. This one is silk and cashmere and feels amazing, but dare I say….. a rayon variety will take me to a similar plane of peace and joy.

3. As promised in last week’s letter, I stopped by JCrew to investigate the brushed cashmere.

   

   I didn’t try them on because I was emotionally depleted following The Webster…. but I think they nailed the red. I’m a little concerned with how cropped it is, but I ordered it and will update you when it comes (hopefully in next week’s letter.. love a saga). The quality was solid given the price, but obviously not entirely comparable to THE Lisa Yang sweater. Also, btw — I finally wore her this week and got so many compliments!!!!! I immediately started googling to see if the other colors were on sale (the brown one I have is officially sold out online, as of this week). Here are some options: there’s one Grey left on net a porter, bby blue + black + white brushed cashmere polos r 25% off on SSENSE, not a polo but same brown as mine & a Very Good Deal on mytheresa, & not brushed cashmere but this knitted butter yellow cashmere is gorgeous and SO on sale. The butter yellow is sitting in my cart rn, so if you all buy them before I get around to it, I just ask the universe to take it as a token of reverse gatekeeping Karma that can go towards my Khaite Rene piggybank.

Quicker Hits —

4. HEHE HA HA I WON!!!!!!!!! If you recall last week, I said that I wanted to find the leather, fall/winter version of my mesh Alaia flats (aka no form of perforation will prosper in December). They needed to have a similar almond toe (bc it’s elongating) & have a soft leather (bc I find that flexibility + malleability on foot is key to comfort). Le Monde Beryl has this grommet Mary Jane exclusive to Net-a-Porter. I sat on it for the past week, and after seeing “Low Stock” in many sizes, decided to order this morning. I’m OBSESSED. I haven’t worn outside yet, but upon first try on, they are sexy and fun and light and so comfy. WOW!!!!!!!! This might be the most exciting purchase I’ve made this season, I said it.

5. Other good things I ordered this week (will report back on all):

   1. Update: per last week’s letter, I have been on a quest for the perfect kitten heel + pointy toe boots for wide leg pants/jeans. I finally decided to give the acne boots a try (part of the Saks gift card offer, so I got some $$ back, which feels productive, ha!).

   2. From the SSENSE sale: I bought the cult-classic Leset Margot tee (IK.. wild take that I still haven’t tried — you all keep telling me that it’s amazing, so fingers crossed!). I’ve also been looking for the right white tee that’s long enough to layer/peak out under sweaters. I’m looking for the right structure and luminosity (must be opaque! not too high on the neck!) and saw that CDLP had one on sale!! I was introduced to this brand as the t-shirt that boyfriends and husbands of Elusive International Hot Girls (EIHG) wear… my friends have mentioned it’s all very fab, so I’m excited to try! On the topic of EIHG’s, I was at dinner with my some of my favorites on Wednesday, and was lamenting my quest for the perfect “in-between” season wool/cashmere coat. I am seeing a lot of discourse on wrap coats, but not sure if that’s the energy i’m looking to throw. She strongly recommended this one from LouLou studio, and I bought first thing the next morning LOL. SSENSE weirdly has two of the same coat at diff prices - one is 30% off and the other is eligible for the 25% off discount (I had a glass of wine at dinner… which I’m blaming for not noticing the 30% off version until after I purchased at 25% hahaHA </3).

   3. I noticed these silvery/bby blue textured satin/lace trimmed pants at jcrew that could be cute for an upcoming trip I have end of month. Could also be a disaster because I’m 5’4 and tend to get all pants tailored (there’s no way to save the lace trim).

6. If I had all the money in the world, I would buy this lamp. god i just want a Sexy Home Office SO BADLY. I was scrolling 1stdibs, as I do when I want to activate all of my dormant angst, and saw this stitched parchment lamp by Diego Margedan that left me destabilized. Hoping I recover soon……

Last… but nOT LEAST:

7. Pieter Mulier is really doing his Big ONE and I’m listening….. I spoke last week about how much I love my small red le teckel (which makes me new friends every time I wear her, spectacular lore). And while I didn’t make it into the Alaia store last weekend (read: post-The Webster Malaise), it almost doesn’t matter??? What could top the fact that THERE WILL SOON BE A LE TECKEL CLUTCH. I can’t get a feel of the colors online, but if there’s ever a chocolate brown suede (or if he makes it in the 101 Dalmatians/calf hair version that I adore)… i’m SOLD.

   

8. How fun are these moo moo cowhide bby’s!!!! I spotted these over the week and immediately sent in our ™️ GC. A friend of ™️ alerted the class that they are likely Zara!!! So fun, they look fab!!
