It is a truth universally acknowledged that hauls are… cringe. whatever. In the spirit of the US economy finally hitting that soft landing, inflation falling the lowest it’s been in the past 3 years, hedonism being in, annnnd the fact that many of my tiktok OGs have haunted my DMs asking for our seasonal haul….. I’ve decided to comply with everything I’ve bought in preparation for fall. I’m also including some bits that I’m ruminating over. Love u to pumpkin spice & back —
Brushed cashmere means a lot to me. So much so, that fall is about to be my version of Chewbacca SZN. Lisa Yang makes some of my favorite fall & winter knits, they’re chic and timeless but also unique/interesting enough to feel cool. I always add a couple each year & this time, it’s the Kerry Sweater — Lisa Yang’s signature brushed cashmere polo. I need you to know that polo sweaters are my entire fall & winter personality — they epitomize my personal style with a special kind of singularity. Anyways, I had been eying the blue (imo BBY BLUE has the power to be the next red… more on that next time), but the luxe brown was on sale at Bergdrof’s this Aug (u know I’m a sale girl). It’s soft and luxurious and I feel very Yasmin Kara Hanani in her Mrs. Henry Muck/NYC era.
For the brown, a couple are left & on sale at Mytheresa, Kirna Zabite, and Farfetch! & full price on the Lisa Yang Website (also love the cornflower blue - insane as a set!!)
I’m going to wear with my favorite layered lariat necklace (not gatekeeping, I bought the last one on net a porter in Nov & it doesn’t exist online anymore - here is the non lariat version of it!) + fave indigo jeans + loafer (fingers crossed) + red sock OR skinny black jean + Chanel Chelsea boots (they have an almond toe & are comfy + universally flattering.. altho impossible 2 find retail). I think sweaters are best punctuated with a minimal wrist (an ode to academia culture), so I just opt for my panthere.
Also — JCREW is doing brushed cashmere that looks gorgeous and compelling. Sitting in my cart — has anyone tried?? The cropped Red, cropped Blue, and flossy cotton candy pink are calling me.
I’ve discussed this one already, but I bought The Row 90s bag in August (linking the better version too). I needed a black, inconspicuous, tiny bag to whip around day & night. One of our earlier adventures was when I took her to the charli xcx & troye sivan show at MSG and shockingly ended the night with zero complaints. Solid price for what it is, lightweight, durable, well made (i don’t feel scammed on quality v price), chic, effortless/goes with everything in an “oh, this old thing!” way. Love it here.
The Puma Speedcat! I am a capital S Samba girl (Cheetah Wales Bonner 4 life), but this fall, puma has been doing her Big One. A lot of people have asked me about what I think the next samba will be, and although I don’t believe in sweeping predictions (do what serves u!!), the speedcat has been incredibly compelling. Also love that they’re F1 inspired (the hottest sport). I scoured the internet to buy the red ones (women’s sizing is V sold out), but I also like the other colors! Will wear similar to Gracie Abrams (above): wide leg pant or jean, maybe a blazer, & def fun knits (love this off-shoulder sweater from modern citizen - was sent the latte brown last fall but will also be buying black LOL).
While I feel like my Sambas are for jeans + athleisure, I feel like the utility of my red speedcats will be as a pop of color + peekaboo for a longer jean/pant (not anticipating athleisure). & If I end up buying the evasive dries sneaker that i’ve been yapping about since July, they will serve as the dressiest, final girlboss in my sneaker wardrobe (almost like a speedcat + samba hybrid). There are many compelling varieties in my cart, but always semi out of stock - leather, caramel suede, olive green suede, silver).
Obviously my cowhide Helmut Lang trench. Live for her, actually. Last week’s Friday trademarked was dedicated to this trench & my POV that cowhide may be Up Next. Coincidentally, my dear friend Madé (databutmakeitfashion) posted that cow print searches were up 13% this week, and made the prediction that cow print may be overtaking cheetah print this fall. Corroborative correlation, not causation — moo! 🐄🥛🐄
Another TJ Maxx find — I picked up two Toteme blazers in August and they have become weekly staples. Pinstripe adds a fun dynamism to an outfit in a way that I feel like Tracee Ellis Ross would cosign. Lately, for daytime, I’ve been layering with my favorite goldie lewinter long sleeve + wear one’s at leggings + leopard sambas (or red fenty x puma avantis). Perfect for Saturday’s where I’m starting with yoga, going to sant ambroeus for breakfast with my pals, and then doing a shop and stroll into early afternoon. My collarless blazer is so chic and I wear in evenings with a lighter wash/wide leg jean + a white tank (varies from Zara to rag & bone, whatever’s laying around lol).
Going against my OG lore— I don’t think I’ll be buying new Uggs this year. I’m liking the worn-in/slouchy look of a mini/short/ultra mini in chestnut. If I were to buy new ones, it would have been the mad happy minis in merlot or chocolate brown. Both are sold out in my size (kept in my cart winter 2023 for too long), so that’s that.
Not a FALL purchase (I bought this spring), but my red Alaia Le Teckel remains My Best Purchase of 2024. I Just saw this NYT article about how it’s the It Bag of the year, and has inspired similar varieties from Khaite x Tory Burch, etc. Interestingly, I still haven’t seen any red Le Teckels on the streets of NYC, but saw buckets of black and cream ones at an Hermes event I attended on Wednesday evening. I’m exercising a lot of restraint to not buy this 101 Dalmatians calf hair Teckel (one pause is that it’s medium and I’m partial to the small size). However, another stunning medium one is this blue version. Going against popular opinion, but I’m not a huge fan of the Teckel in black because the bag is so dynamic that I think it wears color and print best. Anyway, texted the LOML at Alaia & I am going in this weekend to peruse what’s new!! Will include any yummy finds in our letter next week! Xx
On a Feral Hunt For —
The perfect pointy toe kitten heel boot (sub 3 inch) that sits above the ankle but way below the knee. These acne ones (currently 20% off!) are very compelling and are dwelling joyously in my cart. But I’m not entirely convinced…. I could go rogue and do these brown/glossy/snakeskin toteme ones (also on sale!), but I don’t like any variety of a square-ish toe. I find that almond or pointy is best for me because they’re most elongating on my frame. We’ll see.. please let me know if you have any that you adore & that I should look into!!
The fall/winter version of my Alaia mesh ballet flats. They changed my life this summer, and are the most universal and flattering shoe in my closet. BUT I feel like once Oct hits, regardless of the actual temp, it’s Not Chic to be wearing a mesh flat (am I being too critical? LMK). Mine are formally retired until ~May and I’m feeling a gaping whole in my wardrobe. I initially thought I’d buy the crystal/ leather version, but I’m feeling meh.
#1 on the list — I’m thinking these ones from the Row have a similar almond-adjacent toe, ultra flat, and are soft/flex leather (leather malleability on-foot is important if you’re looking for a flat that can accommodate long walks). I’ve always adored them, but never thought I needed them, however… now I think I do? I’ll pop into Bergdorfs or The Webster to try them on again soon and we can come to a decision. Similarly, if anyone has other Mary Jane ballet flats that fit into my rigid af criteria, LMK (save me from myself).
OKKKK that’s enough from me. Lots on my mind this week, clearly. However, maybe crucially, I’ve realized the theme of my fall purchases is that they feel staple-adjacent, in a way that cohesively integrates what already exists for me/my personal style. How do you feel? Are you shopping this fall? I know many aren’t capital H hunting for anything extraordinary. Curious to know what your vibes are, and let’s chat more about this or literally anything else in the comments x hit me in le chat. LOVE YOU! TGIF! Wishing you a happy browsing, shopping, and admiring weekend <3
