THE Q2 LYST INDEX: Decoding consumer demand via this season's hottest buys
a strategist's pOV !!
My background is in strategy, where I’ve spent years advising up to a FAANG CEO on multibillion dollar growth. Which is perhaps important context to engender ur trust ahead of this analysis, but not rlly why we’re here: The Q2 LYST Index dropped this AM, which for those unaware, is a VERY BIG DEAL.
Dubbed the biggest data set in fashion — with 160M Lyst users — their quarterly methodology includes tracking shopper behavior (searches on and off the platform, product views, and sales), alongside social media mentions, activity, and engagement globally. PERSONALLY, I’d say it’s maybe the closest thing fashion has to the DOW — measuring real-time consumer demand across both shopping behavior and social sentiment and then translating it into consolidated rankings across products and brands.
There are a billion ways you can cut the index, but what’s most interesting (and imho impactful) to ME is to look at the output from the vantage of consumer sentiment. What does this symbolize, what are the key emergent patterns (leveraging hegemonic theory + associated frameworks to derive conclusions), and based on that — what’s up next? I was lucky enough to receive a VIP preview of the dataset, so I’ve had some time to chew on it…. let’s dig in!!!!!
